CARTER VS CARTER PT 2

CARTER VS CARTER PT 2

Although some critics were not "Feelin it", the highly acclaimed album"Watch The Throne" by Jay-Z and Kanye West hailed top spots on the Billboard 200 albums and broke Cold Plays first week sales record of 282,000. Reaching nearly 290,000 digital units within 24 hours of dropping on August 8th, Watch The Throne was #1 on itunes worldwide in 23 countries. A huge victory for an album that had no magazine cover publicity or video release campaigns. There was opposition to their release method by independent record stores. An email was sent to Kanye and Jay-Z from the 1,700 independent record stores that formed a group called recordstoreday.com that was formed 4 years ago to combat the conglomerate stores that have tried to muscle out the mom and pop stores. The email stated that it was unfair to not only give itunes and Best Buy a 4 day head start in sales but to also give them the Deluxe addition that included 4 tracks that were not to be sold in the independent stores. These are the stores that have supported these artist from day one. It only seems right that the fans that supported these artist through the grass root stores be rewarded for their loyalty and money spent. The marketing team should of thought about the small stores of the world that have always invited the artist to sign cds and make contact with the everyday people but those days are gone.

Meanwhile in the other Carter Camp, aka Young Mula Baby, THA CARTER IV was released. The style that Wayne came out on the stage in some alleged "jeggings", on the VMA awards did not interfere with his record sales. As a matter of fact I feel that Lil Wayne performing on stage at the awards was a genius marketing idea. Wayne came out and performed songs from his album less than 2 hours from the time his album was released at midnight August 29th. Not only did the first week sales surpass Cold Play's and Watch The Throne's record sales but approached platinum status with 964,000 units moved. I can't comment on either album for the quality because I have yet to find time to critique them. But so far the numbers have spoken LOUD.

  1. Although I am a Jay Z fan I was quite disappointed in Watch the Throne. He and Kanye should take the advice of the title of the cd they released. The Throne of Jigga is definitely being threatened by the other Carter! Weezy the Boss now known as Tunechi has committed murder with the Carter IV! From beginning to end I was wrapped. Not one disappointment at all! Jay Z should have named the cd I Should have Watched the Throne.... Weezy has thrown him off hands down!!!!!

    I have spoken......
